Coaching Centres
A coaching centre is a private institution that trains students for competitive examinations, or for school and college subjects. It is usually run by a company, a partnership, a proprietorship, a trust or a franchise network, and it is not recognised by an education board. For many years coaching centres were not regulated, but they are now increasingly brought under rules.
The Ministry of Education issued Guidelines for Regulation of Coaching Centres in January 2024, which States are expected to adopt through their own rules or laws. The guidelines deal with registration, the age of enrolment, qualifications of tutors, truthful advertising, fee transparency and refunds, student safety, mental wellbeing and the facilities of the premises. Several States have made their own rules, and consumer protection law also applies to misleading advertisements and unfair terms.
A coaching centre also deals with the Shops and Establishments law, building and fire safety rules, the labour laws for its staff and the data protection law for its students. The rules vary from State to State, so the current position in your State must be confirmed.
