7th December 2021, the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a notice on Educational Framework for Global Citizenship in Higher Education. The framework aims to provide conceptual clarity on corelating the higher educational institution and global citizenship among students encouraged by teachers, pedagogy and research along with inputs relating to knowledge, skills and value system for becoming a global-citizens.
The notice begins with the vision of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which includes gradually developing pride among the learners of being Indian not only by region but also by spirit, intellect and deed, knowledge, skills, values, and disposition that would support human rights, sustainable development and global well-being reflecting a true global citizenship.
It goes on to add that the world being interconnected, the idea of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) has evolved as a contemporary global challenge. The NEP 2020 has also a vision to empower learners to understand global issues and become an active promoter of peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure and sustainable societies.
In consonance to the importance given to global citizenship and GCED, the UGC developed an Educational Framework for The Global Citizenship in Higher Education. UGC has urged all higher educational institutions to adhere to the GCED framework available as an E-book and on  https://www.ugc.ac.in/ebook.aspx
